Safety at Home, Great Products and Tips

Chrissy Cianflone of SafeKids.org discusses things that you can do to keep baby safe at home.  Then, we will discuss great products and some safety tips of our own.

Safe Kids Worldwide is the first and only international nonprofit organization dedicated solely to preventing unintentional childhood injury.  It focuses on one specific problem: more children 1 to 14 die from accidents such as motor vehicle crashes, fires, drowning, poisoning and falls than any other cause.

Accidents kill one million children each year around the world and permanently disable many more.  And almost all of these injuries are preventable.

Also, check out BabyCenter.com’s Baby Safety Checklist.  We found it very helpful as it is broken down into categories the needs for Safety with Babies and Toddlers.

Additionally, we want to remind all parents to be careful about cars and babies in the summer.  As moms, we know that life is hectic and it is easy to get overwhelmed and forget things.  Remember to ALWAYS check the back seat to see if your baby is there and NEVER leave your baby even for a few minutes to complete an errand.  It might be more convenient, but it can be deadly.  Almost 100 children die each year in cars.   For more information about Kids in Cars and issues with this as well as tips for how NOT to leave kids in the car, see KidsInCars.org.

Also, Nancy urges you to NEVER leave your baby in the bathtub–even for 10 seconds because it only takes 5-10 seconds for a baby to drown in an inch of water.  Please never do it.  Nancy’s family has lost a member to an accidental bathtub drowning so please know there is nothing more important than being with your baby while she is in the bath.

PRODUCTS

We will be testing child safety products throughout the next couple of months including safety gates, outlets, locks and latches, walking harnesses and child tracking devices.  We will let you know what we think in September as it is Baby Safety month!
