<itunes:summary>We are in love with the beautiful hand-crafted Waldorf dolls from Bamboletta Dolls. These one of a kind dolls are made with natural materials and are designed to encourage creative and imaginative play in your child. Even Hadley could not resist cuddling the sweet doll Lindsay brought in during the show. Find out about these lovely dolls and this inspiring company from Bamboletta owner/founder, Christina Platt. These dolls are not just toys but they become a part of the family!

Fair Warning: If you decided you need to have one of these dolls for your little one, be prepared to exercise great patience as they are limited in quantity and high in demand. However, almost every "Mama" will tell you that they are worth the wait!

Also, don't forget to join the new Babies and Moms Radio Facebook page!

<itunes:summary>Shelly discusses how to look at things in a different way and spell your family name with things around your house or in a building. Nancy interviews an expert on taking beach photos. Make sure you check out the photos on the website to see the great results and read comments from Steffani on her reactions!

These are Shelly's Results:

These are our friend Steffani's results and her comments about how this has helped her kids:

"I let them each child take the camera and find things around the house that could look like the letters in their first name. After they took the pictures, we edited them on our computer, cropping them so that the most important part was revealing the letter. It was a ton of fun. I have our last name one printed up in a small oblong frame and underneath "Packer" it says, "Home is where the most important things happen" because all of the things we used for our letters were found in our own home. I want to have their first names printed out in 4x6 and deco-page them to wooden blocks to put in their room. That part hasn't happened yet. But . . . I have noticed that the kids (after doing this--even CY) are always pointing things out as we drive or go places. "Hey, that looks like an M! or K!" I think it is helpful in their brain development and creativity to think outside the box.

<itunes:summary>Tricia shares her top MomBlogs to inspire, educate, and uplift you. We discuss all of them and their merits and what we have learned in them.

We also tell you how to win FREE stuff from Give Away Today (another Mom Blog) including Sign Babies ASL Flash Cards.

Look below for more info on these great blogs:

http://nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/ Stephanie Nielson, a stay-at-home-mom who celebrates being a wife and mom. It is very positive and uplifting. I started reading her archives after I heard about the small airplane accident she and her husband, Christian, were in in August. Both survived, the flight insructor died. Christian had burns over 30% of his body while Stephanie suffered burns over 80% of her body. Both were in chemically induced comas for months while they fought to survive. Stephanie is now out of the hospital and has begun to blog again about her new life. I read this blog because it is so positive and uplifting, and helps me remember the important things in life. It is a true-life drama that unfolds everyday. Stephanie adds great pictures, ideas, and her own "vintage" personality to her posts.

http://blog.cjanerun.com/ Courtney is the older sister to Stephanie Nielson. After the plane accident, Courtney became mother to 3 of Stephanie's children and updated Stephanie's blog. Courtney is a great writer with a wonderful sense of humor. She wrote beautifully about her transition from mother of 1 to mother of 4 and the trials that their family was going through. She updated the progress of the children's parents as they fought to come back to their family. Now that Stephanie is blogging again, I still enjoy reading Cjane. She also was voted BEST MAJOR BLOG for the 2008 Weblog Awards.

http://www.makeandtakes.com/ Marie LeBaron's background is in Elementary Education and uses her talents to create simple, creative, and fun activites to do with young children. Often the crafts use normal things you would have around the house. She also suggest books and activies to go with them for enriching story time, etc.
http://www.designmom.com/ Gabrielle Blair is an east-coast mom with a great eye for eye catching classy-handmade crafts, toys, clothing, decor for Moms and children. Great eye candy, and is fun to look through. I have always found great links on her site.
http://thepioneerwoman.com/ Ree Drummond is a city girl turn rancher's wife. She is hillarious to read and very entertaining. Her blog has amazing step-by-step recipes (with all the pictures to go with the steps), photography tips, home and garden ideas, and her on-going Romance novel of how she met and wed her cowboy husband whom she calls Mr. Marlboro. I belive she is in the running for "Best Designed Weblog" for Bloggie this year.
http://www.littlebirdiesecrets.blogspot.com/ craft site from crafts on what to do with old sweaters, amish bread recipe, to how to make your own laundry detergent and much more!
http://tipjunkie.blogspot.com Laurie is a stay at home mom from DFW Texas and gives us great tips on organizing and projects.
http://mom-101.blogspot.com/ Just funny! I love the post on potty training.
	http://thisweekfordinner.com/ shares weekly menus
http://www.lazyorganizer.com/blog/ just about anything organizing under the sun!
http://www.shedoeshair.blogspot.com little girl hairstyles and great links!

<itunes:summary>Mom4Life shares great products that solve problems we have as moms from slipping kids to that horrible hospital gown. Check out the show and these products that really caught our attetion:
Grippies make no slip socks $5.99 Add a non slip surface to any fabric, help prevent slips and falls at home! Applying GRiPPiES to the bottoms of tights, socks, slippers or stockings means less slips and falls on tile or hardwood floors. One pack of GRiPPiES can make a non-slip surface on the bottom of 2-4 pairs of socks. GRiPPiES are a lasting solution: once applied, they will last, even after going through the wash. (available in stick on or iron on)
Dunstan Baby DVD $39.95 The Dunstan Baby Language teaches you to hear exactly what your baby is communicating. As a parent, you are able to interpret your infant's sounds and cries and respond to their needs.

The Kangaroo Towel $39.99 This is a unique towel that goes around your neck like a bib. It has a pouch for your little one and it keeps you dry while bathing the kids. Lift them out of the tub and put them into the Kangaroo and keep them warm and cozy with the softest towel around. It comes equipped with a hoodie to make sure every inch of them stays warm. As your baby gets older, the Kangaroo towel gets longer. It comes in two adjustable lengths so no need to go out and buy a larger towel.

<itunes:summary>Nancy reports from her FIRST family vacation. She's at the beach with her kids and husband. Learn what works well and what doesn't and save yourself the headaches when you go to the beach.

Products Nancy Loved While There:

	GoGo Babyz Travelmate
One Step Ahead Sun Smarties Swim Suit, Shoes and Coverup

Other tips Arthur and Nancy give from their trip:

Get a house instead of a hotel so you have a place as a base where kids can eat breakfast, lunch and take naps (well worth the extra cost because you save on not eating out as often).
Be prepared to take a lot of stuff with you to help your child feel comfortable (car seat, portable bed, lovies, food and so forth).
Use the GoGo Babyz Travelmate to get your carseat through the airport (Anna really felt better sitting in her car seat on the plane--well worth taking it on).
Practice sleeping in the Pack N Play before you go (or in a bed if that is what will happen.
Practice using the equipment you take with you (we did not practice the sun cover and it was a sore spot one day).
Find kid-friendly restaurants in advance--kids won't wait when they are hungry.
Check out places that mean something to you and tell your kids about it (Nancy used to live in Corona Del Mar so the family went back to her house, toy store, and library as well as the beach near her house).
Kick Back and Relax! The most important thing you will do on your trip is JUST spend time together.

Click Read More for more pictures of the trip

The Beach where we stayed--our house was one row back and we only had to walk 20 feet to the sand and 50 yards to the water--it was great!

Anna did not like the sand--but she did better when we used the One Step Ahead beach/water shoes. And she stayed protected from the sun in her One Step Ahead Cover Up.

The tidepools were a big hit with Anna, but Alex, her big brother was afraid of the teeny tiny crabs.

A wet suit kept Alex warm in the water. Great thing to take!

Here is Nancy with "Too Much Stuff" for the beach.

<itunes:summary>We give our picks for the best summer pools and tips for staying safe from germs and drowning. We love the
Li'l Squirt Baby Pool from One Step Ahead--the best for kids who are timid about pools or if you just want to splash around ($19.95) and the Soft Seat Baby Pool with Canopy from One Step Ahead--the bottom of the pool really is soft so no rocks poke your baby from below and the canopy (see pic below) helps cut the sun's glare (only $14.95). Read on for tips and listen for our other suggestions:

NEVER ever leave the pool unattended with our without kids in it. If you have to leave the pool, turn it over and dump out the water. Babies are too curious.
Have babies wear tight-fitting plastic pants over the diapers--even if they are swim diapers.
Change the water regularly because bacteria grows--especially because baby pool diapers are only meant to hold in the chunky stuff.
Limit the number of kids in the pool. It might be tempting to invite the entire neighborhood over, but if there are too many toddlers, it makes for bump and slip accidents. If you are worried about kids slipping and falling, give them sandals or shoes that work in the pool--not flip flops or slip-ons, but sandals made for the water. We love the shoes and sandals form One Step Ahead.
Don't let kids stay too long--kids can get waterlogged easily and sunburned so make it a fun activity for a short period of time.
Keep babies protected from the sun: We LOVE the UV protecting suits from One Step Ahead called Sun Smarties. We tried them last summer and for the price, they are the best value. Check out our review of them from last summer. We also love the sunglasses from BabyBanz. They stay on your baby's head. We will be giving away pairs this summer so listen and win!

Also, Nancy LOVES the Piggy Platter and has used it in her house for the past 3 years. It not only works as a place mat that catches everything--it also serves as a great learning station where kids can draw, learn letters and practice writing. Nancy's son uses his every day and Nancy credits the Piggy Platter with the ease at which Alex learned to write his letters and spell (in 1st Grade). Besides all that, it keeps the frustration down when the occasional spills occur because the Platter contains the mess so that it doesn't roll down on to the floor.</itunes:summary>

Here is the promised video of Anna walking with the Squeaker Sneakers. I lost her original one (the first day she wore them) by doing the typical accidental recording over. She is still a bit unstable in this video, but you can see how she walks and squeaks. My husband and I LOVE hearing the squeak. It is really cute and comforting to know where she is now that she is mobile. We call it our homing device.</itunes:summary>

Traveling with With Kids--Tools to Make it Easier

Here are some of the products suggested by Heather from Mom4Life.

For Mom's on the go, City Hopper created the "Hold-me" Bib. Originally the bib was designed to hold the ever dreaded, but often life-saving, binky. As our babies grow, and we grow as parents, we now realize that these bibs can hold just about anything with a ring. Sippy cups, teething rings, and favorite toys can easily be attached to the baby*, their strollers, and car seats. Retail price: $16.00

Peek-A-Boo Stuff, LLC has found a way to combine entertainment, education, quiet time, and style into a simple hand-held toy. Choose from three styles, all perfect for quiet play, especially road trips! There is even a detachable contents list for the parent (or older sibling) to use to prompt what item the child can look for next. Retail price: $15.00

Angel Guard Seatbelt Release Cover $19.00 for a set of two Problem Solved: This guard deters small children from disengaging the seat belt holding their car or booster seat in place. The AngelGuard is really popular with moms that have toddlers in booster seats. My kids are not at that sage yet so I haven't used them myself because they can't reach down that far but they have gotten great reviews from moms of those kids.
Babysparewear Travel Kit outfits to go $24.99-$42.00
Problem Solved: Always have a spare set of neutral, comfortable clothing (pants, short and long sleeve shirt) on hand in the car or diaper bag for accidents while traveling. You could certainly just put extra clothes in the car but moms seem to like the idea of a set of clothes that are specifically for emergency purposes ready to go in their own little bag that you can put the soiled clothes in if needed and they are popular for putting in the dad's car. The plain colors makes it so that if you just need to use the shirt or pants it will likely still look ok with what they were wearing.

OnTray 2Go Multifunctional Container $9.99
Problem Solved: An easy way to keep snacks, small toys, coupons, shopping lists and more close at hand and attached to the handle bar of your shopping cart.

Travelmate $89.00 Problem Solved: Leave your strol...</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>We have a great show with Lisa Druxman of Stroller Strides talking about how to exercise in winter (her voice is a little soft, but the info is great). Then, we talk to PA Jeff Abrams of Alpine Pediatrics about how to deal with Winter Colds. And finally, we discuss how to bring singing into your house and add signing. Check out Babies and Moms Host Nancy Cadjan's book Baby Signing 1, 2, 3 for great tips on singing and signing.

Products discussed today:

Burt's Bees Thoroughly Therapeutic Honey & Grapeseed Oil Hand Creme

This natural hand cream provides daily therapy for extremely dry hands using some of nature's most moisturizing agents like honey, jojoba oil and rosemary extract. Reveal hands that are naturally soft to the touch, smooth and healthy. It was the cream that we found most useful.

Nancy has used Cetaphil, Eucerin, and Aquaphor before, but this was better than any other product. Tricia likes the Burt's Bees Banana Hand Cream.

Additionally, Tricia and Shelly liked the results they got from Nature's Shea Butter. Shea butter is a wonder and works incredibly well to give hands great moisture. Nature's Shea Butter has lots of different fragrances. Because it is all natural, it can be a bit hard to get it out of the jar, but once you get it warm on your skin, it sinks right in with no oiliness.

We love PureWorks Antibacterial Foam as the only hand sanitizer we use in our diaper bag and in our homes. Tricia was the first one to let us know about this incredible product. Since then, we have all tried it and find it is really great. Best of all, it is 100% safe for kids--even if they drink it (they will be really clean on the inside).

Kills 99.9% of bacteria and other harmful germs that can cause illness and infection.
Persistent - Continues to protect your skin for hours after application.
FDA compliant as both a First-aid Antiseptic and hand sanitizer.
No-rinse application for foams and sprays.
	Alcohol free.

The active ingredient is benzethonium chloride, recognized world-wide as a safe and effective antimicrobial compound. Rather than drying or irritating the skin, PureWorks products soften and condition the skin while providing hours of lasting protection against bacteria and harmful germs that cause illness.

To order please contact Skyler at 4puresky@gmail.com or at 801.884.8337. Mention Moms and Babies Radio to receive a special offer of 1/2 off price. You may also visit www.pureworksdistributors.com/puresky for more information.
Xlear nasal wash is an amazing way to clean out the nose and keep things moist so bacteria don't enter the body. When certain harmful bacteria enter the body, they attach to the membranes of the nose and throat. Xlear Nasal Wash merely flushes harmful bacteria away. Nancy has used Xlear for 6 years every winter and her kids actually don't mind the spray because it is kind of sweet. Tricia's kids call it the "sweet spray" and they love it too. It stops the runny nose and helps keep the kids healthy.

Xylitol is a remarkable substance. It is all natural and is non habit-forming. The World Health Organization and the FDA have given xylitol their safest ratings for food additives. Babies and small children can use Xlear Nasal Wash without restriction.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>We talk with Claire Lerner from ZERO to THREE about your child's temperament, an update on signing and what to do in specific situations, and nursing covers and which ones work well. This show really ROCKS!

Temperament

Claire will be discussing the following:

	What is temperament?
	Why is it important?
Are there temperaments that are better or worse than others?
Can you change your child's temperament? Should you?
What do you do when your temperament as a parent is different from your child's, like if you are really active but your child is sedentary? Or you like to be around people a lot and they don't?

Nursing Covers

The nursing cover that our testers liked the best was the Obuba--yes it is a weird name but it works! You pronounce it Oh-Boo-Baw. Unlike some others we tested, this one is multi-function and can be used as a car seat cover, a blanket, or a shade. Plus it covers your back side so when you lift your shirt up, you don't expose your back! And it is stylish and looks like a GREAT poncho. Check it out! We gave it our Squeal of Approval (and Babies and Moms listeners get $5 off when they use the coupon BabiesandMoms when ordering).</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>We talk about taming the Power Struggles and Temper Tantrums, How to get out stains, and how to tell if that research you read about is good or if it is just a scare tactic to get you to buy a product. Great Info!

Basic Baby Clothes Stain Removal:

Pre-treating stains is the best way to keep your baby clothes looking like new. Formula, diaper accidents, and brightly colored baby food can be difficult stains to remove from baby clothes, but taking the time to work on the stains before washing should improve your success rate. If stained clothing will sit for a while, try using a paste-type pretreatment that can sit on the fabric for up to a week. Otherwise, a spray-on stain treatment or laundry additive should handle most stains. For stains that don't respond to basic treatment, you'll need to take a more aggressive approach. Moms have been successful at removing stains by making a paste of Oxi-Clean and spray stain remover, putting baby clothes in a mixture of boiling water and Oxi-Clean, using Zout stain remover, and an other product called Quick n Brite.

Stain Removal Guide

Sponge stains promptly with cool water to prevent setting.
Always test your stain-remover on a hidden part of the garment first to check for colorfastness and bleachability.
Before laundering, pretreat or presoak stained articles with a detergent that eliminates both protein and oil-based stains. Remember, washing and drying without pretreating can set some stains.
If pretreating with a powder detergent, add 1/2 scoop per gallon of water in a bucket or 1-1/2 scoops in your washer and check care label to determine warmest water for your fabric.
Air-dry treated and washed items, since some residual stains are not visible when wet and heat from the machine drying may set them.
Follow all safety precautions on stain-removal product labels.

ALWAYS SELECT the Right Water Temperature
Hot water is best for whites, items that retain their dyes (colorfast), heavily soiled clothes or greasy stains.
Warm water should be used for permanent press and other 100% man-made fibers, blends of natural and man-made fibers and moderately soiled items. It can also prevent dye loss and reduce wrinkling.
Cold water will help keep most dyes in dark or bright colored clothing from running (provided they are colorfast) and minimize the shrinking of washable woolens. Cold water is also good for lightly soiled clothing and clothes stained with blood, wine or coffee. (These stains may set if washed in hot or warm water.)

STAIN REMOVAL PRODUCTS we recommend
Quick'n Brite is a biodegradable cleaner that is environmentally safe, yet strong enough for the worst stains and messes. Best of all, Quick'n Brite is the perfect, all-purpose, household cleaner. This means that Quick'n Brite is entirely safe and requires no special handling like so many other household cleaners. There are no toxic fumes and it won't irritate your skin.

OxiClean Baby Stain Soaker, is a non-irritating, 100% fragrance, chlorine, detergent, dye and residue free solution, so moms feel safe knowing it will not irritate their baby's sensitive skin. It removes tough stains caused by just about anything your baby can get into.

Zout® Liquid was developed in the early 1960's as a solution to fighting off hard-to-remove bloodstains from the uniforms of doctors and nurses. Zout Liquid is water-based, non-corrosive, non-flammable & biodegradable. Zout does not contains chlorine or bleach and is safe for all colorfast washable fabrics. You can purchase this product at most grocery stores. There is a store locator on their website.

Last option: Buy all white baby clothes and wash them with bleach!

<itunes:summary>We're talking about Fit Moms and winter exercise, Rae Pica of Moving and Learning.com talks about keeping kids active (no couch potatoes this show) and we share Cute things you just have to have--and some of them are useful too!!

BTW: See a 3-month old reading Baby Signing 1, 2, 3. So cute!

Keeping Toddlers Active in Winter Rae Pica of www.movingandlearning.com and author of 17 books and consults with organizations like Sesame Street, Headstart, the CDC, Blue's Clues, and Gymboree.

Set aside time every day for active indoor play. Make sure there is someplace where you and your child can safely move --where knickknacks and sharp corners aren't a concern.

Put on a lively march, or break out the pots and pans, and hold a lively march around the house.
Put on some music and dance--or play Statues.
Set up an obstacle course using furniture, empty boxes, a jump rope, etc.
Play Follow the Leader, or Shadow.
Play the Mirror Game; make it active.
Play Catch Me If You Can.

Bundle up and go outside! Important not to give children the idea that they can't go out just because it's cold!

	Take a walk.
Play in the snow: building snow people, making snowballs, making angels.
Play some of the above games: Follow the Leader, Catch Me if You Can.
Catch falling snow on mittens or tongue!
Give toddler a child-sized shovel so s/he can "help" with the driveway or walk.

Join a program like Gymboree or KinderMusik, which you can attend at least once a week.

Buy activity-oriented, rather than sedentary, toys, games, and gifts that will allow your child to be active on his/her own.

	Twister
	Pull toys
CDs with lively music to dance to
	Chiffon scarves to catch
	Balls of various sizes
	A toddler tricycle

Cute Things

WARMSIES--Totally cute and USEFUL warm undergarments for babies. You won't mind when the cute print peeks out from under the pant leg. 15% off Check out put the code RADIO in the comments and they will refund you 15% of your entire bill including shipping. The refund is not placed immediately, but will be refunded to you within the same day. This company was started by moms Krista Lewis and Melissa DeMordaunt.

GiddyGiddy--Our favorite hair clips. SO cute and fun. We get stopped when we are on the street and our girls love to put them in her hair. Get them at Mom4Life (Animal clips, Flower, Fruit Themes). These cute clips were created by Teri Dimalanta .

See Kai Run Shoes--When we first saw these, the oohs and ahhhhs were so loud. Totally cute and useful too. The soles are comfy and easy for your kids to walk in. Plus the style is wonderful! They were created by a husband and wife team when they had their first child!

Pink Bench HeadBand--This is really for Mom and maybe for daughter if she has a larger head. This headband is light and stays in place. If you have a mane of hair that needs to be kept back, try one. No pain and stays in place!

Funkie Bibs--Since you have to use one everyday, why not use something fun. These are cute and they still work. They wash up and save the clothes. And they can even be reversed so you get twice the bib!

BabyLegs Leg Warmers--No joke. These are back in style but they are cuter than they used to be. This is not Flash Dance--but something cute and useful. You can keep baby's legs warm. Check them out but if you are an older mom, don't confess to your kids that you wore these once. Nicole Donnelly, stay-at-home mom to Sara, started making BabyLegs to keep her dear daughter's legs warm.

Zooni Hats--Can you just say TOTALLY CUTE? These hats are adorable and very warm. If you live where you need a hat, check out this totally cute option that will have everyone laughing and loving it. From Puppy Love, Flower Power, Fire Cracker, to Katie's Moss, these hats are adorable! Inspired by the arrival of their children, sister team Michelle and Melissa Jeong created Zooni hats. We are grateful!

Don't forget how to spell the site FAIR-ETAIL.com (don't forget the dash in the middle or you won't be able to use the coupon).

TOYS, KIDS (and moms) LOVE!

Discovery Toys
We had 3 products from Discovery Toys that moms love! To get these great toys, visit Discovery Toys, Inc. to find a consultant nearest to you. We loves these toys and we know you will too!

Rainfall Rattle--This rattle responds to your babies every touch with a gentle melody of beads and a rainfall of color. This product is great for 1 year to preschool aged.
Hammer Away!--Every child likes to take a whack at something. Why not let them whack away on the Hammer Away Boat that builds hand-eye coordination and experience with cause-and-effect concepts. Great toy for age 19 months to preschool.
Measure Up! Cups --Every child likes to either stack or fill something. These colorful stacking cups are designed to make stacking easy for little hands. They also come in different sizes so you can stack them inside each other. Great for 12 months to Kindergarten.

Shape-O Toy
There is another reason to call your local Tupperware Representative other than replacing all your rose colored Tupperware you purchased in the 90's! Mom's and Babies alike love the Shape-O Toy. This classic rattle, shape-sorter, and counting toy is fun for babies and later helps toddlers match and identify shapes along with building coordination and dexterity.

Oball
Rhino Toys, Inc. has created their Oball to fit just about every age. This ball's 4.5" diameter size and finger holes makes it very easy for little fingers to grasp. It is very colorful and comes in two different sizes. It is "the ideal ball in every situation."

Magtastix
This toy has different shapes and sizes that fit together to make structures. The ball pieces are the size of a tennis ball and perfect size for young kids!

Zoobies
We love these and have given them our Squeal of Approval! With their soft, squishy and cuddly bodies that converts from animal to pillow to blanket. This toy is bound to be the perfect companion for any child.

Child's Chair
We also recommend a child's chair for your little one. They just love furniture "just their size!" You don't need to break the bank however, just a plain wooden chair that maybe has a little rock to it will do! However, make sure that the chair is well made and will be up to the challenge of an active little one. A suggestion would be to find a local unfinished wood furniture shop that would have a chair at a reasonable price and paint it or stain it to fit the child's room. You can even add their name in vinyl lettering. This way, if you needed to pass the chair down to a future little one, you can just peel the name right off and add another name!

Tent and Tunnels
One of our all time favorite play items is a Play Tent with a few tunnels. This provides hours of entertainment for all crawling+ children. It's a real plus when the tent has the EZ Twist technology that doesn't require poles! EZ set-up and EZ take down!

Date Night Ideas:

Infant Costume Ideas from Shelly:

Use your gear. Turn your stroller or wagon into a racecar with a cardboard box and dress your baby with some sunglasses and a jacket covered with endorsement logos. Or turn it into a giant flower pot and dress your baby as the flower. If you are going to carry your baby in a carrier you wear, dress him as a superhero in flight. Or attach a large circle of colored posterboard or felt to his chest and a thick white rope hanging from it to be an irresistible lollipop.

Use a purchased hooded sweatshirt and matching pants and dress it up. Here a loads of things you can do with different colors of hooded sweatshirts.

(Some of these costumes would be even better with mittens. If you can't buy them in the right color, buy some colored socks and cut a hole in it for the thumb to stick out. Or you can make some easily: Sew knit fabric into a sock shape to cover hands. Cut a hole for the thumb to stick out on one side. Perfection in the project is NOT required! Your child might comply with wearing them more if you also cut...</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>We talk about how to foster Independence with Dr. Byran Korth, Tricia talks to us about her favorite online shopping tips

Dr Korth's ideas on how to foster independence. Check out this great handout Dr Korth helped to create and gave us access to: Foster Independence

How to shop Safely Online
(provided by www.Microsoft.com and www.safeshopping.org)
If you don't know an online retailer by its brand or reputation, these tips can help you determine whether they're operating a secure and trustworthy Web site before you enter your credit card number or personal information.

Before you select a store

Do a background check. Look for a physical address (not a Post Office box), request a catalog by mail, or call and talk to a company representative.
Explore the Web site for third-party seals of approval such as:

BBBOnLine (Better Business Bureau Online)
or

TRUSTe

Companies can put these seals on their sites if they abide by a set of rigorous standards--such as how complaints and disputes will be resolved and how personal information can be used. If you don't readily see these seals on the site, look in the privacy policy or "Terms & Conditions" which should be clearly posted on the site.
Tip: If you do see the seals above, click them to make sure they link to the organization that created them. Some unscrupulous merchants will put these logos on their sites without permission, and they're less likely to get caught if they don't link back to the site.

Find out what other shoppers have to say about an online store on comparison sites such as Epinions or Bizrate. These sites have customer evaluations built into their design with a number of smiley faces or stars.
Review their shipping methods and policies to determine what carriers they use, their shipping rates, and if they provide tracking and insurance. Also find out where they ship from--goods are sometimes sent from international locations, which require customs and extra time.

Before you enter your credit card number
So, you've found the perfect item at the perfect price and you're ready the purchase. Before you enter your credit card number, make sure the store you've chosen abides by the following rules.

The company should only require personal information that's necessary to complete the purchase. You will probably enter your credit card number, address, and telephone number. Be wary if they ask for other information such as your Social Security number, bank account numbers, or your mother's maiden name. Note: Some reputable companies might ask for your interests by having you check certain boxes. This information should not be required to complete the purchase.
The Web site should use secure technology. When you get to the screen where you enter your credit card number or other personal information, make sure that the Web address begins with https (for example, https://www.tailspintoys.com/) and check to see if a tiny locked padlock appears at the bottom right of the screen, as shown in the following image.

Example of a Web site that uses https in the address and a secure site lock icon.

Trust your instincts
If a site matches all the criteria above, then there's a good chance that the site is both legitimate and reliable. But as with most things online or off, if you get a bad feeling about a store, skip it and shop somewhere else.

Tricia's Personal Resources:

Websites for great Online Coupons to the most popular stores:
o http://www.mommysavers.com
o http://www.wow-coupons.com
If you know the product you need but don't know where best to purchase it:
o http://www.dealcatcher.com (this site also has online coupon listings also)
o http://www.shopzilla.com
Receive money for spending:
o These two sites offer rewards back to you every 3 months for using them as your shopping portal. http://www.ebates.com and http://www.mypoints.com Plus, the bonus is you can also use the online coupons at the sa</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Dr. Kerry Maguire, Director of Public Advocacy with Tom's of Maine talked with us about dental health for your baby. We also talk about tooth brushes we have tested and the amazing things your baby will tell you when she can sign. Plus lots more fun info.

Check out the FREE Kindermusik Class offer special for Babies and Moms Listeners. You can try a class and know if it works for you!

Our kids especially love the kids toothpaste without flouride. And the parent toothpaste is quite good--unique flavors that are not overpowering.

Toothbrushes we Tested

There is a cool toothbrush for the youngest babies. Check out the Babys First Toothbrush from Baby Buddy. Tricia's daughter Kiera actually asks to brush her teeth with this brush--several times a day. Anna likes it enough that she will brush after meals (we leave it in the kitchen and do it before we get out of the high chair). Check it out and check out some other things they have--we like the straps for keeping things attached when baby learns to drop things as well as the closet organizer tags to keep track of the sizes of clothes you have in the closet.

We also tried the American Red Cross Infant to Toddler Oral Care Kit by Learning Curve. It's a complete infant-to-toddler oral care kit to promote healthy gums and teeth. Contains 1 fingertip toothbrush, 1 gum stimulator, 1 infant toothbrush, 1 toddler toothbrush, 1 toothbrush holder and 1 storage pouch. The toothbrush is soft for older kids so we like it for the 18 month to 3 year age. We espeically like the toothbrush holder--totally cool. You can get this kit at stores like Target.

NOTES: The toddler brush is definately for older kids and if your baby doesn't like you to stick your finger in her mouth, the fingertip toothbrush won't work well so you might want to try the Baby Buddy and see if she will brush her own teeth (or just push through and get your baby used to it). Or, try using a soft cloth as Dr. Maguire suggested.

Look for Nancy's New BookBaby Signing 1, 2, 3 is Nancy's new book. Baby Signing 1, 2, 3 is the answer to all your signing questions. Learn how to sign with your baby at every age and every stage. This new book covers your child's physical, emotional, mental and linguistic development at every age and how signing fits in to the picture. If you are starting to sign with your baby at 4 months or 14 months, this book tells you how to do it and gives you activities to help you and your baby learn to sign quickly and successfully. This is the first book to include a chapter dedicated to signing with children with Special Needs.</itunes:summary>

NOTE: Safety is always paramount. Make sure you have had your car checked and you have safe seats for all children.

Try to travel at the most normal times for your child. (ie If they sleep well in the car, you could plan driving time around naps or night, but not too late for you to safely drive!)
Make sure that all their needs are met (ie they are well rested, well fed, clean clothes, diaper, etc. too often parents try to go too far without changing diapers, but this is not in anyone's best interest)
PLAN AHEAD! This cuts down on lots of frustration when the baby is screaming. Set a realistic goal for the day's travel distance, then add in extra time. We add two hours for every ten of driving. Use this time for effective stops, you will not feel frustrated when it is necessary to stop to feed, change or just stretch, and exercise yourself and baby. Make sure your route is planned, have reservations already so you can stop and sleep right when you're ready.
Make routine stops before emergencies arise. We stop every two hours whether anyone is screaming or not. We do potties if needed, gas for the car if needed, otherwise we pass out healthy snacks, everyone changes seats, change drivers, one new toy/book per child, we do a family cheer and then we're off again. No one gets bored or angry when we stop that often and it actually saves time in the end.
Don't bring too much food, otherwise you will just be eating all the time. You'll get drowsy and sick, baby will be over stimulated. Bring stuff to do so boredom just not induce eating.
Interact with your child every so often so they don't feel abandoned and trapped in the car. Play fun games with them (like doing the Sign Babies ASL FLash Cards). Then, turn around and let them know when you are "done" so you can have some down time for you too.
Pack a good diaper or satellite bag upfront, not with the luggage, so you have all you need at all times. This should include a change of clothes for baby, PJS special blanket, etc. I always put everyone in jammies at the 7-8 pm stop. Then, when we arrive at the hotel at 10 -11pm, the kids just go right into the beds while parents work.
Baby wipes on every row of seats. need I say more? (hand sanitizer too)
DVD players if desired with appropriate movies (Signing Time)
First aid kit in car, including Tylenol or whatever for pain if baby is teething or uncomfortable.

<itunes:summary>Today's show is about How to sign with Your Baby and Must Have Items for Moms!

#1 - Hand Sanitizer Purell, GermX, and PureWorks Antibacterial Foam are top picks.PureWorks not only has antibacterial moisturizing foam, but antibacterial lotion, soap and a surface cleaner. Love it!!!

#2 - Aquaphor Healing OintmentThis comes in a tub or a tube and you use it INSTEAD of diaper ointment. It is for excema or rough skin, but it creates the best barrier for preventing diaper rash. I recommend the tube because when you only have 1 hand available, its a little easier to get the ointment out and apply with very little mess. The tub must be screwed off and the chance of baby getting a foot loose and plopping it right into the container is great (personal experience).

#3 - HumidifierUltrasonic humidifiers produce a micro-fine mist when water is passed over an ultrasonic nebuliser (high frequency vibrating apparatus). With proper cleaning, it reduces the amount of bacterial spores that can be found using a warm and cool mist humidifier. Walmart sells a ReliOn brand for around $30 and I love it!

#4 - Vibrating BouncerIt doesnt matter what brand or what it looks like, just make sure it vibrates. They say vibrating simulates a car ride. Many mothers say that they would much rather have a vital organ removed than give up their bouncer. The most popular brand would be made by Fisher Price. Also it grows with them and can be used as a feeding chair when the get older.

#5 - Disposable BibsPampers Pocket Bibsters or Pibs Disposable Bibs at www.pibsonaroll.com/ they fit on a standard paper towel holder.

#6 - Lansinoh LanolinA definite must-have for all nursing mothers! It takes a while for both our baby and us (unless you are plain good) to get the hang of the whole breastfeeding thing. During that time, our main food source to our babies can be quite sore! Lansinoh Lanolin helps repair and keeps them soft to eliminate cracking. Ouch!

#7 - Nursing PadsEven if you don't decide to nurse, you will likely need these until your milk dries up. For those who choose to nurse, there are many of us who know that there is nothing worse than a leak! Keep them handy and always take extra! Two types - disposable and reusable. The best disposable according to moms would be the Lansinoh brand and then Johnson & Johnson. Medela, Avent and Gerber make reusable pads.

#8 - Crib Sheets/Mattress PadYou wake up to your baby hungry and dirty from head to toe. The real trick is how do you change the explosion, get them fed, and change the sheets without turning on the light to completely wake them up. Easy! The Ultimate Crib Sheet! It's a miracle! Found at Babies R Us and internet sites.

#9 - Well stocked FirstAid Kit

Infant Tylenol, Infant Motrin, Childrens Benedril (get chart from doctor regarding)
baby clippers with a long ribbon attached to find easily
rectal digital thermometer
Petrolium Jelly for lubricating rectal thermometer
Saline nose drops
Nose bulb from hospital
Aquaphor
Check you local Red Cross for Infant First Aid book and Infant CPR card, Index card with important numbers (i.e., doctor, poison control, hospital).

#10 - Well stocked Diaper Bag

For Baby:

list of contents in bag for easy checking before leaving
Satalite Bag that holds diapers, full travel container wipes, changing pad or lap pad, Aquaphor, and a couple Ziploc sandwich bag to put soiled diapers. (check out the bags at: http://www.laragallagher.com/bags/index.html)
Hand Sanitizer
travel-sized lotion
Infant Tylenol
small pair of folded Scissors
extra pacifier in Ziploc bag
travel-size tissue
receiving blanket
extra onesies for complete blowouts
plastic containers with pre-measured formula
bottles filled with filtered water
couple of burp cloths
extra thermometer

For Mom:

Tide Wipes
Nursing Pads
Bottle of water and granola bar
